In this article, we’ll explain the common issues that marketers face while running reports on Looker Studio and actionable solutions to address these challenges.
Note: The following error messages are defaulted in Looker Studio and are not correlated with Two Minute Reports.
Issue: “There are too many scripts running simultaneously for this Google user account”.
In Looker Studio, a script signifies a request for information. When you open or perform any action in your Looker Studio report, you execute multiple scripts to load your data. Here are some examples of scripts that are used in Looker Studio: Loading a bar chart runs one script. A pie chart with multiple segments runs one script. Applying a custom date range filter runs one script. Adding a new metric or dimension runs one script. |
Reason for “Too many scripts running” error message: You’ll encounter this error message if you have multiple charts on one page or when you refresh too many reports in Looker Studio simultaneously.
Each chart runs a script to load data in your Looker Studio report. Depending on the connector type (Google or its partner), Looker Studio throws the above error message if the limitations are exceeded.
How to fix this error: You must limit the number of scripts you run simultaneously. Here’s the limitation rate from Looker Studio:
- Google connectors: Built-in data connectors provided by Looker Studio – 50 scripts simultaneously.
- Partner connectors: Developed by third-party vendors – 30 scripts simultaneously.
As a recommended solution, load within 30 charts per page for your Looker Studio reports to be responsive.
Note: Two Minute Reports is the partner connector, so you can run only 30 scripts in your Looker Studio report.
Issue: “Service invoked too many times for one day: urlfetch”
Every time you execute a script in Looker Studio, the system will request data from the source associated with the script. For example, if you add, remove, or update any metric or dimension, executing that script will trigger a request (or “fetch call”) to retrieve that data. |
Reasons for “exceeding URL fetch calls” error message: This happens when you refresh your Looker Studio report too many times.
Note: The number of calls created depends on the user account type. The current limit for the consumer account (“user@gmail.com”) is 20,000/day, and for the Google Workspace account, it is 1,00,000/day. Adhering to these limits ensures better performance and efficient data retrieval.
How to fix this error: You can implement the following steps to resolve this issue:
- Upgrade to Workspace Account to have a higher limit.
- Add another Google Account to the Two Minute Reports Team to help distribute the load equally. The limits apply to each account separately. When you connect data in Looker Studio, the account you use will determine how much quota you’ve consumed. If you want to switch accounts, you can reconnect the data source using a different team member’s Google account.
