How to Create a new WooCommerce Data source in Looker Studio

WooCommerce is one of the top platforms to create an ecommerce business around. It has a robust system that allows anyone to build a a thriving online business. As such, it comes with a multitude of metrics to report on sales, unit prices, and average order values.

With that many metrics, ecommerce owners and marketers need to report these metrics in Looker Studio. Two Minute Reports solves this problem. With TMR, you can connect WooCommerce to Looker Studio, importing the data, so you can easily reduce your time creating reports.

Generate the API Key and Secret Key from WooCommerce

It’s required for WooCommerce to enter an access token to connect to Two Minute Reports. The API key provided by WooCommerce is entered in Two Minute Reports interface.

What is an API key?

Info

An API key allows an application (in this case Apple WooCommerce) to access an API (Application Programming Interface). In simple words an API key is a method to allow WooCommerce to communicate with Two Minute Reports so that metrics can be imported.

  • To get started with this process, you will need to log in to your WooCommerce account and navigate to the Settings page. From there, click on the Advanced tab and then select the REST API option.

  • This will take you to the WooCommerce REST API settings page.

  • On this page, you’ll see a section labeled Keys/Apps. This is where you can create and manage API keys for your WooCommerce store. To create a new key, click the Create an API key button.

  • Here, you would first need to specify the description for the purpose of requesting the API key then followed by adding the user who is requesting the key and finally Specify the permissions for the key, which can be Read, Write or Read and write. Finally click on Generate API key.

  • Now, you would be able to view the API key and API secret for once.

Make sure to copy the API secret key and save it somewhere secure. You’ll need this key to authenticate your requests when using the WooCommerce API.

Now, use this in place of API key and API secret in our Two Minute Reports configuration section and add your store URL to create your new TMR’s WooCommerce Data Source later.

Select WooCommerce in the TMR Portal

The first thing to do is to go through our portal and select the data source you want to add.

  • Choose Two Minute Reports for Looker Studio (the blue one).

  • Select your team. If you only have one team, you skip this and TMR automatically redirects you to the connectors page.

You will now see the connectors page.

  • In the connectors page, find and select WooCommerce.
