Ask the Google Analytics MCP Why Key Events Fell, by Channel and Landing Page
The question below checks five parts of a GA4 property at once: channel shifts, landing pages, the checkout funnel, AI referrals and untagged traffic.
Compare the last 28 days with the 28 days before in GA4. Which channels and landing pages lost key events, where do mobile shoppers drop between add to cart and purchase, and how many sessions came from ChatGPT or Perplexity?
| Area | What I found | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Channels | Organic Search key events fell 18% while sessions stayed flat | Check landing pages |
| Landing pages | /pricing drew 4,200 sessions at a 31% engagement rate | Rewrite hero copy |
| Checkout | 62% of mobile carts never reach begin checkout | Test mobile checkout |
| AI referrals | ChatGPT sent 640 sessions, mostly to two older blog posts | Refresh cited posts |
| Unassigned | 9% of sessions sit in Unassigned, most from email links | Fix UTM tags |
Client summary: Revenue held steady, but organic key events dropped 18% after the pricing page redesign. Fixing the mobile checkout step and retagging email links are the two quickest wins this month.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Ask for sessions where session source is chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai or a similar assistant, then group them by landing page. GA4 only sees these visits when the assistant passes a referrer, so some of them will not be labeled as AI traffic. For a ready-made breakdown by platform, run the AI traffic report Claude Skill.
Yes. Landing page sits in the content group, and you can pair it with sessions, engagement rate and session key event rate. Ask for pages above your median sessions but below your median key event rate. Every field is listed on the GA4 metrics and dimensions page.
Yes, when the Google Ads account is linked to the property. GA4 then reports advertiser ad cost, cost per key event and return on ad spend by Google Ads campaign. For search terms, Quality Score and impression share, use the Google Ads MCP server page, since that data lives in Google Ads itself.
Yes, and the difference matters. First user source / medium and first user default channel group show what first brought someone to the site. Session source / medium shows what brought each visit. Ask for both when a channel looks weak, because it may start journeys that other channels finish.
Yes. The connector has daily, weekly and monthly cohort fields, plus first session date and user type for new or returning visitors. Ask how users who first arrived in a given week behaved in later weeks, or compare returning user key events across months.
Unassigned is the value GA4 uses when no channel rule matches the session's source and medium. It often means a link was tagged with a medium GA4 does not recognize. Ask for Unassigned sessions by session source / medium and landing page, and the list shows which links need new UTM tags.
Yes. Item views, add to carts, checkouts and purchases are all there, along with cart to view rate and purchase to view rate. Break them down by item name, brand or category to see which products get attention but rarely sell. Refund amount and order coupon help explain revenue that looks off.
Google lists tools for standard reports, realtime reports, funnel reports, property details and custom dimensions and metrics. It runs on your own computer through Python and a Google Cloud project, and covers GA4 only. Two Minute Reports puts GA4 next to your ad and search data instead. To use Two Minute Reports from Claude, see the Claude guide.
Yes. Search term is a content dimension, so you can see what people typed into your site search and which pages they searched from. Percent scrolled and scrolled users (people who reached 90% of a page) show whether long pages get read to the end.
