Create a connection
A connection is your team's authorized link to a connector, such as Google Ads or Meta. It is the first step to use Two Minute Reports in Google Data Studio.
Prerequisites
- A Two Minute Reports account with Google Data Studio on its plan
- The sign-in details for each platform that you want to connect
- A role that can create connections
Open the Google Data Studio page
- Sign in to the Hub at hub.twominutereports.com.
- In the sidebar, select Google Data Studio.
- Find the connector that you want. Use the search, or sort the list.
Create a connection
Select a connector
Select the connector that you want to set up, such as Google Ads, Facebook Ads, or Google Analytics 4. To start from the top of the page, select Create report and choose the connector in the first step.
Name the connection
In the Create connection step, type a name for the connection. A clear name helps when you connect more than one account from the same platform, for example "Google Ads - Client A" and "Google Ads - Client B".
Authorize Two Minute Reports
Follow the steps for the connector:
- For most platforms, you sign in on the platform's own page and give Two Minute Reports access. Then you return to the Hub.
- For some platforms, you enter credentials, such as an API key.
Select How to connect for the steps for that connector.
Enable accounts
In the Enable accounts step, turn on the accounts that you will use. Enabled accounts count toward your plan.
You can also create and manage connections on the Connections & accounts page in the Hub.
Connect more than one account
Many teams connect several accounts from the same platform:
- Create a connection for each sign-in.
- Use clear names, such as the company, the region, or the purpose.
- Enable only the accounts that you use.
- Each connection keeps its own sign-in and access.
Account permissions
Each platform has its own access levels. These are common ones:
- View access: read-only access to reports and metrics
- Edit access: can change campaigns, settings, or configuration
- Admin access: full control, including billing and users
Two Minute Reports usually needs View access at least. Each connector page lists the access that it needs.
Speed Boost and warming up
After you enable an account:
- Speed Boost copies the account's data before its first use. The account shows Warming up with its progress.
- When warming up is complete, the account shows Ready to use.
- After that, Speed Boost syncs the data at regular times, so queries run faster.
Warming up usually takes 2 to 24 hours.
Reconnect a connection
If a connection stops working, its status changes to Needs reconnecting.
- In the Hub, open Connections & accounts.
- Find the connection, and select Reconnect.
- Complete the sign-in again.
- Grant any new permissions that the platform asks for.
You may need to reconnect when:
- Your sign-in details on the platform change
- The platform removes or suspends the account
- The platform's access token expires
- Your permissions on the platform change
Supported connectors
Two Minute Reports has connectors for 30+ platforms, including:
- Advertising: Google Ads, Facebook Ads, LinkedIn Ads, TikTok Ads, Amazon Ads, and more
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4
- E-commerce: Shopify, WooCommerce
- Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB
- APIs: API Bridge, for any JSON API
See the full list on the Google Data Studio page in the Hub, or in Connectors.
Troubleshoot connections
The connection fails, or does not authorize
- Check that you sign in with the correct account.
- Check that the account is still active on the platform.
- Some platforms need a specific account type, such as a business account.
- Reconnect the connection.
An account shows No access
- The connection works, but it can't get to this account.
- Sign in to the platform and give the account the access that it needs.
- Some platforms need you to turn on API access first.
- If the access looks correct, contact the platform's support.
No data appears in Google Data Studio
- Wait until the account shows Ready to use.
- Check that the account has data for the date range.
- Check that the account is enabled.
- Reconnect the connection.
Security and good practice
- Use reporting accounts. Create separate reporting accounts for client work when you can.
- Check your connections. From time to time, check which accounts are connected.
- Remove what you don't use. Delete connections that you no longer need.
- Keep sign-ins private. Do not share platform passwords. Use connections and setup links instead.
- Review permissions. Make sure that accounts still have the correct access.
