Troubleshoot Google Data Studio issues

Fix common problems with Two Minute Reports in Google Data Studio.

This page helps you fix common problems when you use Two Minute Reports with Google Data Studio.

Connection issues

You can't create a connection

  • Check that you sign in to the platform with the correct account.
  • Check that the account has the permissions that the connector needs.
  • Some platforms need an admin account or a specific access level.
  • Check that two-factor authentication on the platform does not block the sign-in.
  • Reconnect the connection.

"Connection failed. Please try again."

  • Check your internet connection.
  • Check whether the platform has an outage.
  • Some platforms have rate limits. Wait a few minutes, then try again.
  • Check that the platform did not suspend or deactivate your account.
  • Reconnect with your current sign-in details.

An account shows No access or Needs reconnecting

  • No access: the connection works, but it can't get to this account. Sign in to the platform and give the account the access that it needs. Some connectors need you to turn on API access.
  • Needs reconnecting: the connection expired. In the Hub, open Connections & accounts and select Reconnect.
  • See Account missing access or connection expiry.

An account is warming up for a long time

  • Before an account's first use, Speed Boost copies its data. The account shows Warming up until this is complete.
  • Warming up usually takes 2 to 24 hours.
  • Large amounts of history take longer.
  • Queries can be slower until warming up is complete.
  • You can do other work while the account warms up.

Query config and data issues

A report that uses the query config shows no data

  • Wait until the query config's accounts show Ready to use.
  • Check that the accounts have data for the date range of the report.
  • Check whether the report's filters remove all the data.
  • Check that the accounts are enabled.
  • Try a longer date range to find the problem.

The data is incomplete or wrong

  • Compare the results with the platform.
  • Check the report's filters.
  • Check the date range, and time zone differences.
  • Check that the metrics and dimensions are correct for that connector.
  • Remove filters to see if the data appears.

The data is different each time

  • Some platforms report data differently for different requests.
  • Attribution windows can change, especially for advertising.
  • The platform may have updated or corrected the data.
  • Some data is not final until several hours after the event.

Metrics or dimensions are missing from the field list

  • Not every platform makes every metric available through its API.
  • Some dimensions are not in the platform's API.
  • Check that your platform account has permission to see the data.
  • Check that the account does not restrict some types of data.
  • Contact support if a metric should be available.

Report issues in Google Data Studio

The report shows no data

  • Check that the data source is connected (look for the checkmark icon).
  • Check that the date range has data.
  • Check that the filters do not remove all the data.
  • In the Hub, check that the query config has no warning.
  • Remove filters to see if the data appears.

Charts do not show correctly

  • Some chart types need specific data.
  • Check that the chart has at least one dimension and one metric.
  • Try a different chart type, for example a bar chart instead of a pie chart.
  • Check that your metrics work with the chart type.
  • If the problem continues, build the chart again.

The report loads slowly

  • Use a shorter date range.
  • Show fewer dimensions in each chart.
  • Use filters to get less data.
  • Split a large report into several smaller reports.
  • Check Google Data Studio's performance suggestions.

You can't edit the report

  • Check that you have Editor or Owner access (in the Share settings).
  • Reload the page.
  • Some organizations do not allow report editing. Contact your admin.
  • Try a different browser, or clear your cache.
  • Sign out, then sign in again.

Data freshness issues

The data does not update

  • Two Minute Reports has no refresh schedule for Google Data Studio. Google Data Studio asks for the data when the report needs it.
  • Google Data Studio can keep data for a time before it asks again. Use Google Data Studio's refresh option to get the data again.
  • Check that the connection is active and that the accounts show Ready to use.
  • Check that the platform has current data.

The data is old

  • Some platforms send their data 24 to 48 hours after the events.
  • Check that the connection does not need reconnecting.

The data changed unexpectedly

  • The platform may have updated its data.
  • Some platforms correct old data after they first report it.
  • Check whether the filters or the date range changed.
  • Compare with the platform.

Sharing and access issues

A recipient can't open the report

  • Check the spelling of their email address.
  • Check that they have a Google account (for sharing that is not public).
  • Check that you sent the invitation.
  • Ask them to check their spam or junk folder.
  • Send the invitation again.

The report says that you have no permission to view it

  • The owner may have removed your access.
  • You may be signed in to a different Google account.
  • Open the report in an incognito or private window.
  • Ask the report owner to share it with you again.

You can't share the report

  • Check that you are the report owner, or have enough access.
  • Some Google Workspace organizations do not allow sharing outside the organization.
  • Contact your Google Workspace admin.
  • Share with people inside your organization first.

Shared users see different data

  • Some data sources need each user to sign in separately.
  • People can have different access to the data underneath.
  • Check whether your organization limits who can see the data.
  • For data that everyone must see the same way, use one shared account for the reports.

Performance

The report loads very slowly

  • Use a shorter date range, or fewer dimensions.
  • Use filters to get less data.
  • Split large reports into smaller, focused reports.
  • Check your internet connection speed.

The report slows down when many people view it

  • Many viewers at the same time can slow the report.
  • Use filtered views, so that each person sees only their data.
  • Make the charts simpler.
  • If the problem continues with many users, contact support.

Platform rate limits

  • Some platforms limit API calls each hour or each day.
  • Split large reports into smaller ones.
  • Contact the platform to ask for a higher rate limit.

Blended data issues

Blended charts show no data

  • Check that each data source is connected and returns data.
  • Blending needs a dimension that both data sources have.
  • Check the blend settings in the report.
  • Test each data source alone first, then blend them.
  • Some data sources do not support blending.

Data sources conflict

  • Each chart uses one data source.
  • To combine data sources in one chart, blend them.
  • Check the metrics and dimensions of each data source.
  • Make the report simpler, with one data source at a time.

Browser issues

The report does not load

  • Reload the page.
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
  • Try a different browser.
  • Turn off browser extensions that can interfere.
  • Check that JavaScript is turned on.

Charts disappear or the formatting breaks

  • Reload the report.
  • Clear your browser cache.
  • Try a different device or browser.
  • Save the report and open it again.
  • Check whether a recent change caused the problem.

The mobile view does not work well

  • Google Data Studio reports work on mobile devices, but some layouts need changes.
  • Some charts do not show well on small screens.
  • Use filters and date controls instead of large tables.
  • Test your report on a mobile device before you share it.
  • Make complex charts simpler.
